Given the current pollution scenario in the country, besides respiratory issues, skincare is a major concern. Pollution affects the scalp and skin as the air pollutants cause sensitivity, dryness, acne, allergic reactions, hair loss, rashes and related conditions. Air pollutants make the hair and skin extremely dull and even clog all pores.

It is important that you get rid of Pollutants and impurities that have accumulated on your skin. Get products that have the right and safe ingredients and are free of chemicals. Hunt of cleansers and solutions that have mint, neem, aloe vera, eucalyptus, sandalwood, and other such natural ingredients.

Rosewater and green tea are great if you are looking for a skin tonic that works. In case you have rashes then make a paste using rose water and sandalwood and apply on the face. Wash it off with water after it dries up.

How Do Anti-Pollution Cosmetics Work?

Cosmetics that are said to be and sold with the tag that they are anti-pollution are basically“cover creams” that form a barrier between the skin and pollutants. It is best to use a sandalwood protective cream. This makes or forms a transparent protective cover.

Sandalwood is well known for its soothing properties that protect the skin from eruptive conditions and irritative reactions. This ingredient generally suits all skin types and helps increase the skin’s moisture retention ability too.

Activated Charcoal

This is one of the latest trends where activated charcoal is used to detoxify the skin. Mix activated charcoal with rose water and aloe vera gel. Apply a thin layer on the face and wash it off after 20 minutes. Do not apply to eyes or lips.

Hair Care

It is not just the skin but also your hair that needs attention. You must wash it frequently as the pollutants on the scalp make your hair brittle and collect on the scalp. Hair rinses, shampoo, serums and conditioners help in restoring the normal balances if they have ingredients like brahmi, amla, triphala, bhringaraj and henna. They form a protective layer on the hair.

All you have to do is mix a teaspoon of honey, vinegar and one egg. Massage the solution on the scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes and then wash with normal water temperature or cold is also fine. Do not wash off eggs with hot water.

Another way is to use hot oil therapy where you heat up coconut oil and apply. Then wrap a hot towel around your head and keep it on for 5 minutes. Repeat the wrapping 4 times as this practice helps the scalp in absorbing all the goodness of the mixture properly.

It is not just hair and skin that are affected by pollution. Your eyes are at equal risk. Wash your eyes with water several times a day if you feel a burning sensation or redness. Soak the cotton in cold rose water and place them on your eyes like cooling pads. Relax for a good 15 minutes. This also helps in getting rid of all that fatigue you may have been feeling for a while.
