Do you know that you can easily make a nourishing gel for your hair using flaxseeds? Flaxseed gel is a natural, homemade alternative to store-bought hair gels, packed with essential nutrients that promote hair growth, reduce frizz, and provide deep hydration.
If you’re looking for an easy and effective way to care for your hair, making flaxseed gel could be the perfect solution. According to Surabhi P (@surabhi_littlereviews), fashion influencer and digital creator, here’s how you can easily make flaxseed gel for your hair at home to have nourished and healthy hair:
Flaxseeds are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins that help nourish and strengthen your hair. Flaxseed contains a mix of vitamins, nutrients, and healthy fats, as per the Healthline report. Using flaxseed gel can bring multiple benefits to your hair:
i) The essential fatty acids in flaxseeds nourish the scalp, which in turn promotes healthy hair growth.
ii) The gel helps to lock in moisture, making your hair look smooth and shiny while controlling frizz.
iii) Flaxseed gel can also soothe irritated scalps, reducing dandruff and dryness.

1. First, start by placing the 1/2 cup of whole flaxseeds in a saucepan. Add 2 cups of water to the pan and boil it on a medium heat. Let the flaxseeds simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes and stir it occasionally. As the flaxseeds cook, the water will start to thicken, becoming something gel-like. You’ll notice that the water reduces to about half its original volume as it turns into a gel.
2. So now once the water has reduced and the mixture has reached a gel-like consistency, you need to strain the gel. Use a fine strainer or cheesecloth to separate the gel from the flaxseeds. Pour the mixture through the strainer into a clean bowl, gently pressing to extract as much gel as possible.
3. While the gel is still warm, add 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil to the gel and mix. This oil is optional but adds extra moisture and nourishment to your hair.
4. Allow the gel to cool completely before applying it to your hair. Once cooled, transfer the gel into a clean container for storage. (You can store the flaxseed gel in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 weeks.)
5. To use the flaxseed gel, you can apply it to your scalp and hair, massaging it gently. Use your fingers to distribute the gel evenly through your hair, from the roots to the tips. You leave the gel in for about 2 hours, then wash it with a mild shampoo to remove the gel.
Note: Do a patch test before full application to make sure that there are no allergic reactions.
