Buy only from authorised sellers, be it online or retail and take a proper receipt. Don't fall for these huge discounts on imported products as they most of the time fakes.

Whatever you buy, pay attention to the label of the product. Sometimes the counterfeit product looks the same but there are some differences if you look closely. Check the colour of the label, the thickness, the font type or size, missing logo, a name similar to your brand. If in case you are unable to spot it, then check on the brand's own website.

Now big brands have fancy packaging. They are sturdy and you have to look for tamper-proof features. Some brands allow you to check the authenticity as well and you can check the serial number or scan the barcode. Like Lakme Kajal has a security hologram on packaging in the front. Maybelline has hot-stamped stickers on the backside packaging.

After Buying

If you have been regularly using the product then you may know but if you do not then check the smell, consistency and texture of the product. You can also check the reviews online to be double sure. Now if the brand is genuine and responsible, its product quality cannot diminish. If you find it to be a fake then you have the right to call the legitimate manufacturer or contact the industry association.

No matter if it is the same eye shadow or foundation you use, every time you buy a new bottle, test it on a small area of your skin before using it. Always pay attention to make sure that the product you are buying is not a fake as the fake ones can harm you, be acidic in nature, react to your skin as well.
