A protein-rich hair mask is an excellent way to nourish your hair, improve its texture, and add a healthy shine. This simple DIY recipe using two common kitchen ingredients—curd and egg—can help repair damaged hair, reduce frizz, and strengthen your strands from root to tip.

Why This Mask Works

Egg: Eggs are a powerhouse of protein, vitamins (A, D, E), and fatty acids. The protein in eggs helps to strengthen hair follicles, while the vitamins and fats add moisture and shine.

Curd: Curd is rich in probiotics and lactic acid. It acts as a natural conditioner, smoothing the hair cuticles and adding a lustrous finish. The lactic acid also helps cleanse the scalp and fight dandruff.

Ingredients You'll Need

  • One whole egg
  • 3-4 tablespoons of plain, unsweetened curd

Instructions

  • In a bowl, crack one whole egg. Add 3-4 tablespoons of plain curd.
  • Whisk the ingredients together until you have a smooth, creamy paste. Make sure there are no lumps. If you are adding any optional ingredients like oil or honey, mix them in now.

Application

  • Start with dry or slightly damp hair. Use a brush or your fingers to apply the mask evenly, starting from your scalp and working your way down to the tips.
  • Massage the mixture gently into your scalp for a few minutes to stimulate blood circulation and ensure the nutrients are absorbed.
  • Once your hair is fully covered, tie it up and cover it with a shower cap. Leave the mask on for about 30-45 minutes.
  • Rinse your hair thoroughly with cool or lukewarm water. Do not use hot water, as it can "cook" the egg and make it difficult to remove.
  • Once the mask is fully rinsed out, shampoo and condition your hair as you normally would. You may need to shampoo twice to ensure no residue is left.
  • For best results, use this mask once a week. Also, always do a patch test on your skin to check for any allergic reactions before applying it to your hair.
