Maa Chandraghanta is the married form of Maa Parvati. As per Drik Panchang, after her union with Lord Shiva, she adorned her forehead with a crescent moon (Chandra), earning the name Goddess Chandraghanta.

Depicted riding a tigress, she possesses ten hands, four right hands holding a lotus, an arrow, a bow (Dhanush), and a Japa Mala, while her fifth right hand is in Abhaya Mudra. Similarly, her fifth left hand is in Varada Mudra. Maa Chandraghanta represents the serene aspect of Maa Parvati. The celestial sound of the moon and the bell on her forehead are believed to ward off negative energies and evil spirits. According to legends, the resonance of her bell has been instrumental in defeating demons in battle, sending them to the realm of the God of Death.

On the third day of Chaitra Navratri, as per Drik Panchang, devotees honour Maa Chandraghanta alongside Lord Shiva and observe a fast to receive divine grace. The traditional rituals involve placing jasmine flowers, rice, and sandalwood in a kalash, followed by an abhishek with milk, curd, and honey. A special sugar bhog is prepared as an offering to the goddess during Navratri.

Devotees wake up early, dress in festive attire, and light a ghee lamp while offering flowers or garlands to the deity. Vermilion (kumkum), jewelry, and homemade sweets are also presented as part of the ritual. The Durga Saptashati Paath and Durga Chalisa are recited as acts of devotion. In the evening, bhog prasad is offered, followed by the chanting of Maa Durga Aarti. To break the fast, devotees consume satvik food, strictly avoiding tamsik ingredients such as onion and garlic.
