Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill Cast And Story Overview
Directed by Grace McNally, 'Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill' features the interviews of Michael Barisone and Lauren Kanarek, along with supporting individuals explaining their infamous dispute. The story follows a shooting at a New Jersey horse farm in August 2019, which exposed a bitter dispute between rider Lauren Kanarek and her trainer, former Olympian Michael Barisone. After their professional relationship collapsed, tensions escalated through public accusations and fears for safety on both sides. Barisone, claiming deteriorating mental health, took a handgun to the farmhouse and shot Kanarek twice; however, her boyfriend brought him under control. Severely injured, Kanarek survived after intensive treatment. Barisone, charged with attempted murder, stood trial in 2022, where his defence argued temporary insanity. The jury found him not guilty by reason of insanity, leading to psychiatric treatment and conditional release in 2023.
