The Testaments: Expected Release Date, Cast, Plot, and More Details About The Handmaid's Tale Sequel Series

Fans of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ can look forward to the upcoming sequel series, ‘The Testaments’, which is currently in development at Hulu. Based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel, the series is set 15 years after the events of the original show and promises to explore the aftermath of Gilead through the perspectives of three women. 

After six seasons, ‘The Handmaid's Tale’ came to an end. The show first premiered on April 26, 2017, and wrapped up with its series finale on May 27, 2024. In September 2022, just before Season 5 started, Hulu announced that they would be renewing the series for a sixth season, but this would be the last. That final season officially premiered on April 8, 2025.

As of now, Hulu has not announced an official release date for ‘The Testaments’. Production began on April 7, 2025, following the conclusion of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale's’ sixth season. The Testament's official Instagram handle wrote, “It’s official! The Testaments, based on Margaret Atwood’s sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, starts production April 7. Ann Dowd will reprise her role as Aunt Lydia with Elisabeth Moss as an executive producer of the series.”

While the exact premiere date remains unconfirmed, it is expected that the series will be released in early or mid-2026.
