The Gardener: Trailer, Release Date, And Other Details About Netflix's Upcoming Spanish Thriller Series

Netflix is gearing up to bring another Spanish thriller. Titled The Gardener, its trailer was released recently, and must say, it was quite a chilling watch. Lasting 1:45 minutes, the promotional clip offered us a glimpse into what the upcoming Spanish series is going to show its viewers. The Gardener hits the OTT platform on April 11. Here's more on it.

The Gardener Trailer: What Does It Show

The trailer for The Gardener starts with a bespectacled man looking here and there as if he fears getting caught doing something illegal. He then digs the ground in a garden and a woman's voiceover introduces us to him.

She says that he is her son, Elmer and since he was a child, he had a "special connection with trees and plants," and the trailer shows us some innocent shots of Elmer planting flowers, cutting rotten leaves, and in general, intently taking care of them. The woman, La China Jurado, then adds that when he was six, they met with a car accident, and "he lost his ability to feel emotions."

While acknowledging that it's a "terrible" thing to happen to anyone, Jurado adds, "But sometimes, it was a great advantage," and this is where the trailer changes its gears completely and becomes ominous. We understand the woman is a contract killer who utilises her son's emotionless trait and love for a garden to her benefit and the first shot in the trailer was actually him digging a grave to bury a body and that the garden was a front for a burial ground.

Enter Violeta, a charming nursery teacher, and Jurado-Elmer's next victim. While Elmer is in pursuit of lending the killing blow to finish off Violeta, things take a 360-degree turn and he starts falling for her. This leaves both Elmer and Jurado stunned but the latter is obsessed with the idea of ending Violeta's life while Elmer is confused of his new-found feelings. It's no more Violeta v/s Elmer now, but rather Jurado v/s Elmer.

How he tackles his mother's rage while continuing how to emote is something we have to find out when The Gardener hits Netflix on April 11, 2025.

The Gardener: Gist, Filming Details, Cast

As per Netflix, the gist of The Gardener reads:

"Elmer and his controlling mother, La China Jurado, manager of a garden center hide another thriving underground murder-for-hire business. Killing is easy for Elmer. An accident had left him emotionless. However, while planning the murder of Violeta, a charming nursery school teacher, he falls in love with her. Now, Elmer must learn to love while his mother does everything possible to end Violeta's life."

The six-episode fiction series was filmed in Pontevedra, as well as in Toledo and Madrid. The “romantic thriller” stars Álvaro Rico, Cecilia Suárez, and Catalina Sopelana in the main roles.

Emma Suárez, María Vázquez, Francis Lorenzo, Javier Morgade, Isabel Garrido, Iván Massagué, and Esteban Roel complete the cast.

The Gardener hits Netflix on April 11, 2025.
