Kayoze Irani's directorial debut, ‘Sarzameen’, has sparked varied reactions on social media following its release on JioHotstar today. The film, which marks the second outing for Ibrahim Ali Khan after ‘Nadaaniyan,’ has divided audiences with its ambitious attempt to blend family drama with patriotic thriller elements.

Sarzameen Twitter Review

X (formerly Twitter) users have shared contrasting opinions about the Dharma Productions venture. While some praised the veteran actors' performances, others criticised the execution and Ibrahim Ali Khan's screen presence.

Suryakant Dholakhandi (@maadalaadlahere) drew comparisons to classic Bollywood films, writing: "#SarzameenReview: It has vibes like Mission Kashmir and Fanaa. Rating: 3/5 #Sarzameen is a one time watch film where #PrithvirajSukumaran and #Kajol pull off the dramedy very well whereas the #IbrahimAliKhan's performance is just decent. He has to learn more but I think that with time, everything will be okay."

The veteran actors have earned appreciation from critics and audiences alike. User $@M (@SAMTHEBESTEST_) gave the film a strong rating, stating: "#Sarzameen Review: SHOCKING, PATRIOTIC & EMOTIONAL RATING - 4/5 Sarzameen comes with a HUGE twist in the end that you've never seen in any patriotic thriller before. Chilling and emotionally nerv cracking. #PrithvirajSukumar shows what patriotism means and #Kajol showcases true motherhood and love."

Christopher Kanagaraj (@Chrissuccess) acknowledged the leads' efforts while highlighting the film's shortcomings: "Gud Perf frm Prithviraj & Kajol. Ibrahim Ali Khan is a misfit, emotionless facial reactions. Kashmir Visuals r beautiful. Familiar Story with an interesting Climax. Thr r emotions & patriotism in film, but couldnt connect to it due to weak writing. BELOW AVERAGE!"

This film marks Kajol's return to Dharma Productions after nearly 15 years, as noted by defence decoded (@defencedecoded): "A Return. Today. 14 Years, 11 Months, 10 Days Later. Kajol x Dharma reunite for #Sarzameen But honestly… watched half the movie — Kajol's acting felt totally off. Disappointing."

Ibrahim Ali Khan's Performance Draws Criticism

The young actor's debut performance has received mixed to negative feedback from social media users. Several reviewers pointed out his lack of emotional depth and screen presence.

Ashwani kumar (@BorntobeAshwani) provided a detailed assessment: "#Sarzameen serves up a father-son conflict against a Kashmir backdrop, with Kajol torn between both sides and terrorists fueling the fire. The story tries for twists, but gets lost in melodrama—thrills take a backseat to heavy emotion. My rating: 2.5 #IbrahimAliKhan shows effort but feels raw; #PrithvirajSukumaran is strong as a strict colonel, and #Kajol shines in emotional scenes but is let down by forced action in the climax."

Critics have highlighted issues with the film's narrative structure and direction. K A L K I (@iamkalki_13) expressed disappointment: "#Sarzameen had a solid premise but failed to deliver. Weak screenplay and direction let it down. Prithvi, Kajol & the rest of the cast did well, but there was no real emotional connection. Overall, a mid watch with no standout moments. AVERAGE"

Prakash Khetpal (@pkverdicts) was particularly harsh in his assessment, simply stating: "#Sarzameen – Na Sar, Na Zameen Kayoze Irani's Sarzameen attempts to weave a tale set in the emotionally charged landscape of Kashmir"

Sarzameen Plot Overview

The film follows Major Vijay Menon (Prithviraj Sukumaran), a strict army officer stationed in Kashmir who carries emotional baggage from his own military upbringing. The story explores how he unconsciously transfers the same pressure to his son Harman (Ibrahim Ali Khan), who struggles with a speech disorder and feelings of inadequacy. Kajol plays Meher, a mother caught between understanding her son's silence and her husband's rigid principles.
