Owen survives a bridge collapse on his way to work and, true to form, springs into action to save all four members of a family who were also caught in the wreckage. While Teddy desperately tries to reach him, the fire department finds his truck abandoned in the water under the bridge. This makes it look like the worst has happened. In a shocking turn of events, instead of a tragic death, the writers opt for one final heroic act. They choose a fitting way to close out his medical arc that echoes the war incident that first triggered his PTSD. This time, Owen saves the entire car rather than losing everyone in it, a deliberate callback to his season six flashback where his squad perished.

How Do Teddy And Owen Say Goodbye To Grey Sloan?

Shaken by the scare, Teddy delivers an emotional speech to Owen, but instead of the infamous "I choose me" line that ended their marriage last season, she says "I choose us," 

Further, Teddy added that, "I needed some time to figure out what I wanted for myself, and what I want is you and our kids. I want us." Owen then encourages her to accept the role she was offered as head of a surgical innovation incubator in Paris, telling her he and the kids will move with her. Showrunner Meg Marinis put it simply, for once, Owen will be the one following Teddy.

Will  Ever Return To Grey's Anatomy?

Teddy and Owen were given a happy ending, and the reason they survived the often-deadly drama is that showrunner Meg Marinis wanted to leave the door open for their return. 

The decision to write them off was tied to a financial reason with the show's budget constraints heading into ‘Grey's Anatomy’ season 23.
