Euphoria Season 3: The Downfall Of Sydney Sweeney's Cassie Howard

The third and final chapter of ’Euphoria’ is back, and fans couldn’t be more excited. After a long hiatus, our favourite cast reunited with Sam Levinson for this final chapter of the series. While all characters have their own pros and cons, one who has been breaking the internet lately is Sydney Sweeney's Cassie Howard. The first episode of ‘Euphoria’ season three aired this week, and it is safe to say that fans found Cassie’s arc to have taken a turn for the worse, which, in all honesty, we didn’t think could happen. As an OG fan of the series, Cassie’s questionable storyline that is starting to build this season seems to be plunging into a downward spiral. Seeing how much Cassie has changed in this new season reminded me of her story in season one of the series. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to dissect the downfall of Sydney Sweeney's Cassie Howard in ‘Euphoria’ season three below. 

Euphoria Season 1: Cassie’s Origin Story 

The first season of ‘Euphoria’ delved into the childhood experiences of our beloved characters and how these moments were pivotal to their high-school personality. When it comes to Cassie, her past showed her daddy issues and how, because of this, she fell in love with every guy she dated. As Rue rightly narrated, “She fell in love with every guy she ever dated. Whether they were smart or stupid or sweet or cruel, it didn't matter. She didn't like to be alone”

We saw her as a sweet girl who was looking for love in every guy that entered her life. During season one, we saw her relationship start with McKay and how toxic the two were together.

Euphoria season 2: Cassie’s Crashout, Lies, And Betrayals

Seeing season one, fans had developed a soft corner for Cassie. Wanting to find love, being loved and staying in love forever, this is all she ever wanted. Seeing Cassie mess up her love life, people found her tired desperation to look for love relatable, and many gained sympathy for her. They thought her character deserved to be in a happy, healthy relationship, unlike the ones her parents shared.

With season two, we see her personality take a sudden change. Cassie has never once been single, and after her breakup with McKay, she started to spiral just the tiniest bit. One bad decision, and Cassie's entire life started going down like dominoes. Hooking up with Nate was just the beginning of Cassie’s entire life unravelling. From wanting Nate’s attention to dressing up like Maddy to being in a relationship with him, Cassie sacrificed a lot. 

She betrayed her best friend, Maddy, lost her trust, her friendship, and somewhere down the line, she started losing herself. Even when Cassie finally got together with Nate, their relationship dynamic was extremely toxic and chaotic.

By the end of this season, we saw her personality start to change and slowly fade away this season. She had now become a person whose moral compass had cracks and new insecurities.

Euphoria Season 3: Cassie’s Ultimate Downfall 

With 'Euphoria' season three, the trailer showed us that Cassie and Nate get married. In the first episode of this season, we see Cassie and Nate living together. Years after high school, Cassie is trying to become TikTok famous. She is seen in an absurd dog costume where she is pretending to be a puppy. She drinks from a pet water bowl and even wags her tail to the tunes of a silly song about doggies. 

Cassie and Nate plan on getting married soon, and her wedding plans are going way over budget. She fixates on getting floral arrangements, which by the way are a casual $ 50,000, for her wedding that Nate strongly disagrees with. While Cassie says she’s trying to grow her following and make money off social media, her way of doing so really puts fans off. We also see her going through photos of Maddy living her successful, glamorous life. You will also get to see Cassie’s toxic, ‘I’m crazier’ side reflected in some scenes this season.

From being a girl people sympathised with in season one to being a backstabber in season two to whatever she has going on in season three, Cassie’s character seems lost. By the looks of it, Cassie seems to have gone far off the deep end and seeing the first episode, fans have lost all hope for getting her old version back. 

We hope Sydney’s Cassie is able to get a happy ending, which brings back her old personality that the fans loved so much.
