Sony LIV is all set to drop its much-anticipated original drama ‘13th’ on October 1, 2025. Rooted in the real-life journey of educator Mohit Tyagi, popularly known as MT Sir, the series shines a spotlight on India’s challenging exam-prep culture. The title ‘13th’ refers to the drop year after Class 12 when thousands of students dedicate themselves to clearing the IIT-JEE entrance exam.

13th Plotline, Cast, and Trailer

‘13th’ is not just another academic drama but a heartfelt tale of mentorship, resilience, and dreams. The story follows Mohit Tyagi (played by Gagan Dev Riar, best known for Scam 2003), a teacher whose unconventional methods and dedication transform the lives of lakhs of students.

Alongside him, Paresh Pahuja, the singer-songwriter from 'Bandish Bandits', takes on the role of Riteish, a former student who leaves his corporate job to help MT Sir build an ed-tech startup. The narrative explores their partnership, the hurdles of entrepreneurship, and the emotional bond between a mentor and his pupil.

At the core of 13th lies the inspiring journey of Mohit Tyagi (MT Sir), an IIT Delhi graduate and founder of Competishun. Instead of chasing crore-level salaries, he chose to provide free high-quality tutorials in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics through YouTube. His teaching style, grounded in depth and discipline, has impacted more than 20 lakh students across India.

Where Kota’s coaching hubs charge lakhs annually, Tyagi made world-class coaching accessible for free, proving that mentorship is about commitment, not commerce. Over two decades, his teaching has helped countless students secure top IIT-JEE ranks, reshaping the meaning of academic guidance.

Speaking about the series, Mohit Tyagi shared, “For me, teaching has always been about much more than solving equations or preparing for exams.
