Our beloved national song, ‘Vande Mataram’, was written by the Bengali writer Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. He had written it on Akshaya Navami on November 7 in 1875. This song was first published in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of Chatterjee’s novel, Anandamath.
Chatterjee was a leading 19th-century Bengali writer whose novels, poetry, and essays shaped modern Bengali prose and early Indian nationalism.
