The harsh summer sun increases the water transpiration rate from plants' leaves. Thus, the need for water increases, but not for every plant. Every plant has a specific need for water, no matter the season. Whether you own a garden or you have indoor plants, here are the tips to water them effectively in summer to ensure their growth.
Succulents such as the Jade plant, Snake plant or Cactus thrive well in summer because of their thick leaves that store water for them. These plants do not require consistent watering even in summer. Thus, if you have succulents in your home, you can water them once every two days.
The stems and leaves of the plants can become dry in summer due to excessive heat waves and increasing temperatures. Thus, it is important to mist them using spray once or twice a day to keep the plant fresh and healthy. You can use a normal spray bottle to mist the plants.
It’s a myth that we have to overwater the plants during the summer season. However, a plant only needs water to the extent its soil absorbs the water. Overwatering the plant and flooding it with water can lead to waterlogging and rotting of roots.
Indoor plants (easy to care balcony plants) are not exposed to the sun directly and thus the water needs of these plants are less as compared to the plants that are outside in the sun. Thus, you should not water the indoor plants as frequently as the ones outside. You can water them once in two days or mist their stem and leaves.
The morning is the best time to water the plants (things every gardener must know) as this will allow the water to soak in before the sun reaches its peak and transpiration begins. Late afternoons are also the second best time to water the plants as the sun’s heating intensity decreases.
