Rath Yatra 2025 Bank Holiday: Banks across India will observe varying holidays in different states over the coming week due to Rath Yatra celebrations. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in coordination with state governments, publishes an annual list of bank holidays. These are based on national and regional events, religious observances, operational requirements, and cultural traditions.
Rath Yatra falls on June 27, 2025, and banks in some states will remain closed in observance of the festival. Here's a look at where banks will remain shut this Friday.
According to the Reserve Bank of India's official holiday calendar, banks in June 2025 were scheduled to remain closed for four days, excluding regular weekly offs (Sundays and second/fourth Saturdays). Among these, June 27, 2025, stands out as a significant holiday in two Indian states, where banks will be shut in observance of local festivals. The RBI has formally notified the closure under its holiday classification system.
The RBI categorises bank holidays under the following three types:
Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act
Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Holidays
Bank Account Closing Holidays
These categories help streamline operations while accounting for regional and national observances, ensuring clarity for both banking institutions and the public.

Ratha Yatra is one of the most significant Hindu festivals held annually in Puri, Odisha. It commemorates the grand procession of Lord Jagannath, accompanied by his siblings, Balabhadra and Subhadra, as they are taken from the main Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple in elaborately decorated chariots. The event draws lakhs of devotees from across the country each year.

In Manipur, the festival is known as Kang, celebrated by the Meitei Vaishnavite community. It mirrors the traditions of Odisha’s Rath Yatra, commemorating the journey of Lord Jagannath and his siblings. The festival is a significant cultural and religious event in the state, deeply rooted in Vaishnavism and local tradition.
