The President of India nominates 12 members to the Upper House of the Parliament for their contributions towards arts, literature, sciences, and social services. President Droupadi Murmu nominated the author and philanthropist Sudha Murty to the Rajya Sabha on International Women’s Day.

Sharing the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, PM Modi highlighted the influence of the country's 'Nari Shakti.' in the caption, he wrote, “I am delighted that the President of India has nominated @SmtSudhaMurty Ji to the Rajya Sabha. Sudha Ji's contributions to diverse fields including social work, philanthropy and education have been immense and inspiring. Her presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to our 'Nari Shakti', exemplifying the strength and potential of women in shaping our nation's destiny. Who Is Sudha Murty?

The former chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murty (Sudha Murthy's Inspiring Journey) is an Indian educator, author, and philanthropist. She has established the Murty Classical Library of India at Harvard University and she is also a member of the public healthcare initiatives of the Gates Foundation.

She was also a recipient of the third-highest civilian award in India, the Padma Bhushan for social work last year. She also received the Padma Shri in 2006.
