The incident unfolded as Yashtika Acharya, a young talent in the world of powerlifting, was attempting a lift under the supervision of her trainer. Reports indicate that during one of her attempts to lift the massive 270 kg weight, the barbell fell on her neck. Despite being rushed immediately to the hospital, doctors were unable to save her, and she was declared dead on arrival.
Vikram Tiwari, the Station House Officer of Naya Shahar, confirmed the fatal nature of the accident. He stated that the impact of the fall resulted in a fatal injury to Yashtika's neck. The trainer, who was also present during the session, suffered minor injuries during this incident.

Although there was significant distress following the event, the family of Yashtika Acharya did not file a complaint, and the body was handed over to them after the post-mortem on February 19, 2025, Wednesday.
