Top 10 Most Expensive Cities Of The World To Live In

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) shared the result of their annual Worldwide Cost of Living survey that revealed that on average, prices had risen by 7.4% yearly in local-currency terms for over 200 commonly used goods and services.

Comparing it to the 8.1% mark of last year, there has been a decline, although, there is a significant increase in the price growth.

With Singapore and Zurich leading the list together, here are the top 10 most expensive cities in the world to live in based on the survey results.

Singapore and Zurich Top The List

While Singapore maintained its position at the top of the list, Zurich moved five places up this year leaving New York City and Geneva behind. 

Other Cities On The List

Two Asian cities (Singapore and Hong Kong), four European cities (Zurich, Geneva, Paris and Copenhagen), three US cities (New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco) and Tel Aviv from Israel are amongst the top 10. 

However, as the survey was carried out before the Israel-Hamas war, Tel Aviv’s tenth position on the list is variant to that factor.

Due to the pandemic, it was seen that the Chinese cities were among the biggest movers down the rankings which may have been a result of the country’s slow post-pandemic recovery and subdued consumer demand.

Carried out between August 14 and September 11, 2023, the survey compared more than 400 individual prices in 173 cities globally.
