House Of The Dragon: Milly Alcock (Rhaenyra Targaryen) Opens Up About Incest Scene

Milly Alcock aka Rhaenyra said the incest scene between her and her reel-life uncle Daemon Targaryen was actually comfortable to shoot.

In an exclusive interview with the New York Post, Milly Alcock, aka Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, opened up about that incest scene in the fourth episode of House Of The Dragon.

Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith, took Rhaenyra to a ‘house of pleasures’ in the King of the Narrow Sea episode. They shot an intimate scene where the princess and heir to the iron throne was shown exploring her sexuality, an absolute taboo for a maiden who hasn’t yet been wed. Fans of its predecessor, Game of Thrones (and the OG book series A Song of Ice and Fire) would know that incestuos relationships are nothing to be shocked about in the show. It’s not the sex but the political missteps of the characters that are more shocking indeed.

Here is what Milly Alcock had to say about the plot line and direction.

'Matt And I Are Just Mates’

While speaking about shooting the intimate scene, Alcock said, “(Matt Smith and I) were just kind of mates.” It was one of the reasons why it was comfortable for them to shoot.

Both actors had an intimacy coordinator working them through the rehearsal and final shoot. They blocked everything down months before without much hassle.

Alcock pointed out that Rhaenyra is now at that age where she cannot differentiate between lust, romantic love, and platonic love. “She hasn’t lived that long enough and gone through those experiences,” Alcock added.

While speaking about her character, she further said that the princess knows that she has feelings for her uncle (Daemon), but she is not sure where they stand and how to navigate them.

Currently, Milly Alcock is playing the younger Rhaenyra Targaryen, and soon, we will be seeing Emma D’Arcy take on the adult version role of the princess. In previous interviews, Alcock confessed to her desire to meet D’Arcy and discuss her character. However, director Miguel Sapochnik did not agree to the request and thought “the two might try and mimic each other.”

Both House Of The Dragon and GoT are fictional shows based on George RR Martin’s Fire & Blood and A Song of Ice and Fire books.

In GoT, we saw Cersei Lannister and Jaime Lannister indulging in an incestuous relationship. Later in the show, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen were also shown as a couple (albeit they didn’t know it yet that they were related). The two shared the same bloodline with Daenerys being Jon’s paternal aunt.

Aegon the Conqueror was the first king of Westeros. According to the books, Targaryens were the only Dragonriders who survived of all the old Valyrian dragonlords. Aegon, and his sisters Rhaenys and Visenya owned one dragon each – Balarion, Vhagar, and Meraxes.

Aegon founded King’s Landing, and in his strive to conquer all the realms, he married his sisters Rhaenys Targaryen and Visenya Targaryen.

House of the Dragons begins with King Jaehaerys I, who also married his sister Alysanne and had 13 children with her, of which none survived to sit on the Iron Throne upon his death.

In the next and fifth episode of House of the Dragon, we will see Rheanyra is all set to marry, though in the fourth episode, Daemon asked for her hand in marriage from her father and King Viserys I. It will be interesting to see how things unfold henceforth.
