With over 2500 flying hours in the hostile terrain like Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast and piloting aircraft like the Chetak and Cheetah, she is one of the most skilled pilots in the Indian Air Force. She even led an important rescue mission in Arunachal Pradesh in November 2020. She was also a part of a tri-services all-women expedition to Mt Manirang, a 21,650-foot Himalayan peak.

Singh joined the Indian Air Force as an officer on December 18, 2004. In 2017, she got the rank of Wing Commander and was granted permanent commission in December 2019.

How did Vyomika Singh’s quest to become an air force pilot begin?

While speaking at India Today Woman Summit, Wing Commander Singh recalled how encouragement from a teacher in school led to her fascination with the sky. Interestingly, her name Vyomika means the one who resides in the sky. She said, "Vyom means sky, and I was told in school that you will own the sky one day. The idea got seeded in my thoughts, and I became fascinated by the sky from childhood."

At the India Today Summit, Wing Commander Singh encouraged the young aspirants by asking them to be fearless and believing in their dreams.
