The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 have concluded, and the results have brought both surprises and expected outcomes. According to the Election Commission of India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 240 seats, falling short of the majority needed to form a government independently. One of the most high-profile defeats was that of Smriti Irani in Amethi. As per the Election Commission, Irani, who had famously defeated Rahul Gandhi in 2019, lost to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma by a margin of 1,67,196 votes. This defeat marked the end of an era in Amethi, which had briefly been a BJP bastion under Irani's stewardship.

In Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, lost to Congress stalwart Shashi Tharoor by over 16,077 votes, as confirmed by the Election Commission.

The Election Commission also reported that incumbent Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of rape and serial sex abuse, lost against Congress' Shreyas Patel by 40,000 votes, helping Congress win the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency after 25 years.

The Election Commission declared that Telugu Desam Party's national president Nara Chandrababu Naidu is all set to become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth time after handing a crushing defeat to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress Party in the Assembly election held simultaneously with the general election in the State. The TDP, which is now part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) along with the State's Jana Sena Party (JSP), secured 135 seats, while the JSP won 21 seats and the BJP secured victories in eight seats.

BJP candidate and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut won the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, defeating Congress' heavyweight Vikramaditya Singh, as per the Election Commission.

Amritpal Singh

The Election Commission also reported that the striking fragment of results in Punjab turned out to be the stunning triumph of two Independents, both Sikh radicals including Amritpal Singh, a Khalistan ideologue and self-styled Sikh preacher currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail under NSA charges. Amritpal won from Khadoor Sahib by a whopping margin of 1.93 lakh votes - which is the highest by any winning candidate in Punjab in these polls.
