The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 have concluded, and the results have brought both surprises and expected outcomes. Smriti Irani

One of the most high-profile defeats was that of Smriti Irani in Amethi. As per the Election Commission, Irani, who had famously defeated Rahul Gandhi in 2019, lost to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma by a margin of 1,67,196 votes. This defeat marked the end of an era in Amethi, which had briefly been a BJP bastion under Irani's stewardship.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar

In Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, lost to Congress stalwart Shashi Tharoor by over 16,077 votes, as confirmed by the Election Commission.

Prajwal Revanna

The Election Commission also reported that incumbent Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of rape and serial sex abuse, lost against Congress' Shreyas Patel by 40,000 votes, helping Congress win the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency after 25 years.

Omar Abdullah & Mehbooba Mufti

The first Lok Sabha elections held after the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of J&K into two Union territories five years ago delivered unexpected results. Former chief ministers Omar Abdullah of National Conference (NC) and Mehbooba Mufti of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conceded defeat even before the counting of votes concluded on Tuesday, as per the Election Commission.

Naveen Patnaik

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik suffered his first electoral defeat, losing to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Laxman Bag in the Kantabanji seat, according to the Election Commission.

Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy

The results of Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections were 'surprising', with YSR Congress Party Chief and the outgoing Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's party winning only six out of 175 Assembly seats, as reported by the Election Commission.

Nara Chandrababu Naidu

The Election Commission declared that Telugu Desam Party's national president Nara Chandrababu Naidu is all set to become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth time after handing a crushing defeat to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress Party in the Assembly election held simultaneously with the general election in the State. The TDP, which is now part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) along with the State's Jana Sena Party (JSP), secured 135 seats, while the JSP won 21 seats and the BJP secured victories in eight seats.

Nitish Kumar

According to the Election Commission, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has emerged as a potential kingmaker with his party, the Janata Dal (United), having won two and leading in 10 Lok Sabha seats (till 7 p.m.) in the State on June 4. Given his history of changing sides at key political moments, Kumar has become the most sought-after political leader now.

Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav won the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday by a margin of 1,70,000 votes over his nearest rival and BJP MP Subrata Pathak, as confirmed by the Election Commission.

Kangana Ranaut

BJP candidate and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut won the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, defeating Congress' heavyweight Vikramaditya Singh, as per the Election Commission.

Amritpal Singh

The Election Commission also reported that the striking fragment of results in Punjab turned out to be the stunning triumph of two Independents, both Sikh radicals including Amritpal Singh, a Khalistan ideologue and self-styled Sikh preacher currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail under NSA charges. Amritpal won from Khadoor Sahib by a whopping margin of 1.93 lakh votes - which is the highest by any winning candidate in Punjab in these polls.
