India Women’s National Cricket Team won the third and final ODI of the three-match series against England Women’s National Cricket Team by 16 runs to complete the 3-0 clean sweep over.

The final game Jhulan Goswami played for India will be remembered for more than just her triumphant exit, in which she was carried off on the shoulders by her teammates. Boos were heard in response to a moment that should have been joyful, but not for her, but rather for what had just happened. Chasing 170, England was in trouble at 119 for 9 but was saved by Charlotte Dean (47), who also happened to be the final batter, and Freya Davies. As the game sped up into an exciting conclusion, they reached 153 and appeared to be in control.

It happened in the 44th over when Deepti Sharma decided not to complete her action because she saw Charlotte Dean leave the crease before she had released the ball. The umpires went upstairs for the TV umpire to have a look.

Even as the voice could be heard in the broadcast, “TV umpire to director: Give the best side-on angle, please.” A replay was enough. “ I have made my decision for the big screen,” said the TV umpire. And the big screen flashed Out. Nasser Hussain was on air and said, “It would be debated for a long time but it’s in the law of the games. It states that you can be run out. Remember it’s in the laws of the game.”

Just last week the ICC had made a few changes to be in effect from October 1st. Running out of the non-striker, was one of them.

The on-field umpires had sent the decision to the third umpire (Check Out These Career Options After Taking Physical Education) to see if Sharma was in the delivery stride when Dean left the crease. Dean proceeded to shake hands with the Indians as soon as the third umpire's judgement was announced, even though she was in tears when the dismissal was confirmed.

In the presentation ceremony, Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her surprise at being asked about the final wicket rather than the other nine. To be honest, I thought you will ask about all the 10 wickets which was not easy to take as well (on being probed about the last wicket). It's part of the game I don't think we have done something new. It shows your awareness, what batters are doing. I will back my players, she hasn't done something outside the rules.
