Sweating is completely a natural process and it is a way our body naturally regulates its temperature. It is a part of our everyday life but still, it creates a lot of problems at times. Sweating brings along a lot of problems like sweat patches, sweat stink, infection and a lot more. Dealing with these problems and the embarrassments that follow is a struggle, but well we can surely find out a way. Dr. Sonali Choudhary, Integrative Dermatologist, and Cosmetologist from Smart Metabolic Anti Ageing Center shared with us how one can combat excessive sweating.

She shared, while sweating is necessary to cool down your body and maintain the body temperature, it also takes a toll when it gets excessive. There are two types of excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis, primary hyperhidrosis and secondary hyperhidrosis.

The primary one is more common among teenagers. This one is generally associated with the mental and emotional state of a person. It is a condition that exists more between stressed, anxious or nervous persons. On the other hand, the secondary one is more because of an underlying health issue. These can include something like diabetes, heart disease, obesity, pregnancy, respiratory failure, some cancers or some infections. In this case, people should get their diabetes or hormonal levels checked. To keep the sweating in control, people need to make major changes in their diet too. You need to cut down on your consumption of alcohol, spicy food, garlic. You should also avoid all other foods that increase your metabolic rate.  If you are addicted to caffeine then you need to stop right now as it makes you more vulnerable to excessive sweating.

You can also use antiperspirants, which are very different from deodorants. Antiperspirants work really well with excessive sweat as they keep you dry all day long. You can also apply an antiperspirant at night. Antiperspirants with aluminum or zirconium salt can be used. Surgical treatments and botox treatments are also available that help you deal with the problem of excessive sweating.
