Guru Ghasidas History

Guru Ghasidas was born on December 18, 1756, in a small village in present-day Chhattisgarh. His teachings emphasised the importance of equality, truth, and social justice. He was a social reformer who challenged the caste-based discrimination prevalent in society at the time and advocated for the upliftment of the marginalised and oppressed classes.

Guru Ghasidas was the founder of the Satnami community and the Satnam religion in Chhattisgarh. He was India facing a lot of exploitation and inequality. From a young age, Ghasidas saw the wrongs of the caste system, which made him understand how unfair the social structure was. He rejected this social inequality and worked towards promoting equality for all.

Guru Ghasidas’ followers are known as the ‘Satnamis’ (Satnam” which means ‘Truth’. He promoted the idea that every individual, regardless of caste, creed, or social status, has the right to live with dignity and equality. Guru Ghasidas' teachings encouraged people to lead a life of simplicity, honesty, and spirituality.
