Ganesh Visarjan is performed on different dates depending on family traditions and pandal schedules. While major pandals observe a full 10 day festival which concludes on Anant Chaturdashi, many households perform an immersion ceremony  after 1.5 days, 3 days, 5 days, or 7 days of worship.

Where Can You Perform Ganesh Visarjan In Delhi?

In compliance with the directions from the Delhi High Court and Delhi Pollution Control Committee, the immersion of Ganpati Idols in the Yamuna river is strictly prohibited. 

To facilitate the Visarjan celebrations, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi along with Delhi Irrigation and Floor Control Department have constructed temporary artificial ponds in every zone of the capital city. 

Major artificial immersion locations in Delhi are as follows: 

• East & North-East Delhi: Vasundhara Enclave ground, Mayur Vihar Phase-3 district park grounds, Laxmi Nagar DDA grounds, Yamuna Vihar block sports complex.
• South & South-West Delhi: Dwarka Sector 10 and Sector 11 DDA grounds, Vasant Kunj near C-Block, Saket DDA park, Chhatarpur Mandir complex grounds.
• West Delhi: Janakpuri DDA ground, Punjabi Bagh stadium grounds, Paschim Vihar district park, Tilak Nagar artificial pits.
• North & North-West Delhi: Rohini Sector 11 and Sector 24 grounds, Pitampura TV Tower grounds, Burari ground, Model Town lake park surroundings.

Ganesh Visarjan 2026: Delhi Traffic Routes And Diversions

Delhi Police has deployed extensive personnel across major zones in Delhi to control the traffic situation. Traffic diversions will remain majorly during late afternoon and evening on immersion days. 

Major traffic diversions and arrangements include dedicated lanes for people carrying Ganpati. Medium and heavy commercial vehicles are restricted from entering major procession corridors from 02:00 PM until midnight on Anant Chaturdashi. Commuters are advised to travel through Delhi Metro from 02:00 PM till midnight on Anant Chaturdashi.

Which Roads May Be Affected During Ganpati Visarjan?

Devotees should plan their travel accordingly to avoid potential congestion on major roads of the city: 

• Ring Road Stretches: Stretches connecting Kashmere Gate, ITO, Sarai Kale Khan, and Ashram.

• Outer Ring Road: Stretches around Rohini, Pitampura, Paschim Vihar, and Munirka.

• Vikas Marg: The corridor connecting ITO to Laxmi Nagar, Anand Vihar, and Karkardooma.

• Rohtak Road & Karol Bagh: Areas around DB Gupta Road, Rani Jhansi Road, and Patel Nagar.

• South Delhi Stretches: Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Aurobindo Marg, and arterial roads leading toward Dwarka and Chhatarpur.

Rules To Follow During Ganesh Idol Immersion In Delhi

To maintain public safety and sanitation, the Delhi Government enforces strict regulations for both organisers and devotees. The regulations are as follows:

• Strict Ban on Natural Waterbodies: Immersion of idols in rivers, lakes, or natural ponds is strictly banned. Violators face legal penalties under environmental protection acts.

• Noise Level Compliance: High-decibel loudspeakers and DJ sound systems are subject to strict volume limits and must shut down completely by 10:00 PM.

• Procession Permissions: Organisers of large community processions (Sarvajanik Samitis) must obtain prior permission from local police authorities regarding procession routes and timing.

• Firecracker Ban: The use of hazardous chemical firecrackers during processions along public roads is entirely prohibited.

What Should Devotees Carry For Ganesh Visarjan?

To ensure a smooth farewell to our beloved Bappa devotees are advised to carry a Visarjan kit, that would ensure neat visarjan and keep the process organised. Your Visarjan kit should include Pooja Essentials such as Kumkum, turmeric, rice grains, fresh flowers, dhurva grass, camphor , and dhoop/incense sticks. For Prasad & Offerings keep a box of Modaks, and fruits for the final Aarti before immersion.

Add a brass or eco-friendly plate with a lit oil/ghee lamp for the concluding prayers. You can even carry gangajal in a small container. To discard garlands, clothes and decorative items, carry a paper bag or any eco-friendly bag with you. No plastics. Also make sure to add water bottles, basic first-aid supplies, and wet wipes for family members participating in street processions.
