Turn Off the Power

Before starting, make sure your safety comes first. Turn off the fan at the wall switch. For extra precaution, flip the circuit breaker connected to the bathroom fan. This step helps you avoid any electrical accidents while cleaning.

Remove the Fan Cover

Most exhaust fan covers are easy to remove. Simply pull the cover down gently; it should lower a few inches. Then, pinch the metal mounting wires and slide them out of the slots to fully detach the cover.

Clean the Fan Cover

Take the cover to your sink and rinse it under warm water. Use a mild soap and a soft brush or sponge to remove dust and grime. For tougher buildup, let it soak for a few minutes before scrubbing. Dry it with a towel or let it air dry.

Vacuum the Dust Inside

Use a handheld vacuum or a brush attachment to carefully remove dust from the fan blades, motor, and surrounding areas. Be gentle, avoid damaging the parts. If you don’t have a vacuum, a microfiber cloth or small paintbrush can work too.

Reattach the Cover and Turn Power Back On

Once everything is clean and dry, reattach the fan cover by hooking the wires back into place. Gently push the cover up until it sits flush with the ceiling. Turn the power back on and test the fan, it should run more quietly and efficiently now.

Aim to clean your bathroom exhaust fan every 3 to 6 months to keep it running smoothly and extend its life.
