Today, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, attended an event at the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in Thakkolam, Tamil Nadu, as the chief guest. He was accompanied by Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan and CISF Director General, Shri Rajvinder Singh Bhatti, who were also present at the occasion.

CISF Raising Day History

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is a federal security force created by an Act of Parliament in 1968 (Act 50 of 1968) and was officially established in 1969. Initially, its role was limited to safeguarding industrial units, but over the years, the force’s responsibilities grew immensely. The CISF now plays a vital role in protecting airports, metros, government buildings, and various other important installations.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was established to provide specialised security for key sectors like industries and government projects. It was formed under the CISF Act of 1968 and began operations in 1969. At its inception, the force had just 3 battalions and around 2,800 personnel. Today, the CISF has grown significantly and is now one of India’s largest and most powerful security forces, with a workforce of approximately 188,000 members, as stated on its official website.

According to PIB's press release, “In his address, the Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah said that in the last 56 years, the CISF has not only ensured the development, progress, and mobility of the country but has also played an important role in their smooth functioning. He said that the security of vital installations associated with the industrial development of the country, including ports, airports, and important business, tourism and research institutions cannot be imagined without the CISF. Shri Shah said that it is due to the unwavering loyalty, hard work, and dedication of the CISF personnel that the country is moving forward safely in the field of industrial development. He said that CISF personnel have also taken interest in numerous social activities and taken it forward.”
