Bigg Boss, the Hindi reality show that streams both on Colors TV and Voot app, has been mostly about controversies on the show and contentious contestants every season. Inspired by the Dutch reality television show Big Brother, the Hindi reality show is running its 16th season with actor Salman Khan as the host for the 13th time.
With every season, the show had several contestants who did something controversial either before entering the show or during their time inside the Bigg Boss house. In this season, once again, Archana Gautam was suddenly evicted in the middle of the night for becoming aggressive with Shiv Thakare after being provoked by personal attacks. With her sudden eviction and the raucous it stirred, here is a look at the Bigg Boss controversies we couldn’t forget over the years.
This season stirred up the hornet’s nest even before its premiere with the controversial entry of the filmmaker Sajid Khan, who was accused by several women of sexual harassment in the wake of the MeToo movement in 2018. After being away from the camera since the accusations, the filmmaker made his comeback on screen through Bigg Boss.

Priyanka Jagga was the first participant in Bigg Boss 10 to be voted out. However, she was brought back as a wild card entry after staying in a secret room and monitoring everything inside the house. Once she came back, she wreaked havoc in the house and was unanimously boycotted by the entire house for her foul language, indecent behaviour and derogatory comments against Lopamudra Raut, Manu Punjabi, late Om Swami, and Bani J. Later, host Salman Khan bashed and evicted Jagga for her misbehaviour and disqualified her from the show and mentioned that if she is in the show, Khan will not be a part of it.
In Bigg Boss 7 in 2013, British actor and singer Sofia Hayat filed a complaint against housemate and actor Armaan Kohli for allegedly assaulting her during the shooting of the show. She accused him of manhandling her and subjecting her to indecent language during her stay in the bungalow in Lonavala where shooting for Bigg Boss was scheduled. Following the show, he was arrested from the set itself.
While Kohli had allegations of assaulting women even before entering the house, Tanishaa Mukherjee was highly criticised for entering into a relationship with him and also supporting him during his abusive behaviour towards other housemates including women in Bigg Boss 7. It was rumoured that her sister Kajol, and her other family members were also upset with her decision. During the season, the couple often made headlines for their obscene behaviour on camera inside the house and were even warned by Khan for the same.
