Bank Strike 2025: Are Banks Open On March 24, 25? Find Out Here

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) had earlier planned to go on a two-day nationwide strike (March 24-25, 2025) following dismissal of their demands by the Finance Ministry and the Indian Banks' Association (IBA). But according to the new reports, the strike has reportedly been postponed after UFBU received a positive assurance by IBA regarding their demands, including a five-day workweek, according to PTI.

According to the reports, representatives from the IBA, the Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the Union Ministry of Finance, and the Central Labour Commissioner (CLC) attended the discussions. The meeting was focused on the Union’s demands.

"IBA has proposed further discussions on recruitment, PLI, and other key issues. The Chief Labour Commissioner has assured direct monitoring of the five-day banking implementation," said C H Venkatachalam, General Secretary of the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA).

Why Was The Strike Planned?

UFBU called a strike to demand improvements in hiring practices, job security for temporary employees, and a reduced workweek. After negotiations, the IBA agreed to discuss recruitment and performance-based bonuses further. Additionally, the Chief Labour Commissioner promised to personally oversee the proposal for a five-day workweek in the banking sector.

Will Banks Be Open Or Shut On March 2425, 2025?

Banks will operate as usual on March 24-25. As per regular banking hours, banks are closed on second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Upcoming Bank Holidays In March

Although banks will be open on March 24-25, banking services may be affected in some states due to regional holidays:

March 27 (Thursday): Banks in Jammu and Kashmir will observe a holiday on Shab-E-Qadr, and therefore, will remain closed.

March 28 (Friday): Banks in Jammu and Kashmir will be closed on the last Friday of Ramadan, which is known as Jumat-ul-Vida.

March 31 (Monday): Eid-ul-Fitr will be a public holiday across India, except in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh. This means that government offices, schools, and many businesses will be closed in most states and Union Territories to mark the end of Ramadan.
