Darlings Trailer: Alia & Shefali Starrer Is A Dark Comedy On Domestic Violence

Netflix India dropped the trailer of Darlings on YouTube, on July 25. Within half an hour, it crossed 100k views on the platform. Starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew, the film is a dark comedy about domestic violence.

The trailer reveals Bhatt (Badrunissa Shaikh), Mathew (Zulfi), and Shah kidnapping Hamza Shaikh, played by Varma. Shah is playing the role of Badrunissa’s mother.

One can see the three of them torturing Hamza as revenge. Badrunissa, along with her mother, visits a police station to file a complaint about her missing husband while the two of them have kept him hidden inside a house.

By the end, Badrunissa confesses to treating Hamza the way he treated her in the past. The trailer mentions, “Auraton Ka Apmaan…Sehat Ke Liye Haanikaarak Hai (Disrespecting women is injurious to health).”

Darlings will be released on Netflix on August 5. The film is directed by Jasmeet K Reen and produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Gaurav Verma under the banners of Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Productions.

While promoting its trailer, Netflix India’s caption read, “Injection nahi, haanikarak love se dar lagta hai darlings.”

Bhatt was last seen as the lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'. The mother-to-be has finished shooting her international debut ‘Heart Of Stone’, also starring ‘Wonder Woman’ Gal Gadot. This is also a Netflix film.

Shah was last seen in Amazon Prime’s 'Jalsa', starring her and Vidya Balan as leads. She also played one of the leads in 'Human', a Hotstar Special. Shah’s most acclaimed recent role is for the Netflix series, ‘Delhi Crime’; season two of Delhi Crime will premiere on August 26.

Varma had worked with Bhatt in the past in Zoya Akhtar’s 'Gully Boy', also starring Ranveer Singh. He has also appeared in other Netflix specials, 'She' and 'A Suitable Boy'. He had played a dual role in Amazon Prime’s most famous 'Mirzapur'.

Roshan Mathew is an actor whose most renowned works belong to Malayalam cinema. 'Darlings' is his second Hindi film after Anurag Kashyap’s 'Choked', a film available on Netflix.
