What Is The Significance Of Ahoi Ashtami?
Ahoi Ashtami is the vrat in the Hindu calendar kept by a mother specifically for her children. Mothers worship Ahoi Mata, considered a form of Goddess Parvati and the protector of children.
Unlike Karwa Chauth, where the moon is worshipped, on Ahoi Ashtami mothers break the fast after sighting stars. In Vedic astrology, stars are 27 Nakshatras that govern our life path - praying to them is symbolic of praying for the child's destiny and protection.

Folklore Behind Ahoi Ashtami
According to legend, a moneylender's wife accidentally killed a cub while digging soil. Soon after, all her seven sons died. She was told her suffering was due to this sin. She prayed to Ahoi Mata, drew the face of a cub, and observed the Ashtami fast with true devotion. Pleased, Ahoi Mata restored her sons to life. Since then, mothers observe this fast for forgiveness and for the long life of their children.
