Advance Booking Of Ponniyin Selvan: I Crossed ₹1 Crore Mark Within Hours In India

Based on Kalki's novel of the same name, Ponniyin Selvan: I is the first part of a two-part historical epic. With a large budget and a star-studded cast, the historical fiction is one of the most eagerly awaited movies of the year. According to trade sources, the total revenue from advance reservations in both languages exceeded ₹1-crore by Sunday afternoon. That suggests that, at least for the Tamil version, the movie may have a huge opening weekend.

The movie made ₹1.46 crore after selling 78,000 seats by noon, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The Tamil version brought in ₹1.37 crore, and the Telugu-dubbed version brought in about ₹9 lakh. Before Friday, the amount will undoubtedly surpass the ₹10-crore mark, and if the buzz continues, it may even increase significantly.

Over the weekend, the movie's advance reservations in the international market went on sale, and business is strong there too. The movie has already sold tickets for $400,000 (about 3.25 crore) in just the United States, according to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, who tweeted on Sunday. Singapore (How Singapore Celebrates Diwali) is also showing high trends for pre booking.

Released in five languages, including Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam, Ponniyin Selvan stars Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, and Trisha Krishnan. Later this week, probably by Wednesday, the advance reservations for these language versions are scheduled to go on sale. Trade sources claim that the hype surrounding the Hindi version isn't as strong and that Tamil Nadu will likely be the region where the movie does the majority of its business. Ponniyin Selvan: I will hit the screens worldwide on September 30.
