Veteran Punjabi actor Daljeet Kaur Khangura died on November 17. She was 69 years old and lost THE battle to a prolonged illness. Referred to as ‘The Queen of Punjabi Movies’ and ‘Hema Malini’ of the regional film industry, Kaur had worked on more than a 100 projects. She appeared in around 10 Bollywood films as well.

The actor was born in 1953 in Siliguri, West Bengal. Her parents were based out of a district of Ludhiana, Punjab. She arrived in Mumbai to pursue her career, but relocated to Punjab to explore opportunities in films there.
Reportedly, she completed her primary schooling at a convent school. She completed further studies at Lady Shri Ram College and got trained in acting at the Pune Film Institute.
Kaur started her career as an actor in 1976. She was called the ‘Hema Malini’ of Pollywood (Punjabi cinema). She was a popular name in the regional film industry and reached the heights of success through her hard work. Not many know, but the actor was also a national-level kabaddi and hockey player.
However, she left acting for a brief period after her husband passed away in a road accident. After some time, she returned to sets. Some of her popular projects include Gorakh Dhanda, Giddha, Dahej, Batwara, Dhan Daulat, Jatt Da Gandasa, among others.
One of her Bollywood projects was Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, which also starred Shashi Kapoor. Kaur also featured in a short film that was directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Reports suggest Kaur’s last rites happened in her hometown, Kasba Pramhar Bazar, Punjab. She was struggling with a mental illness and living with her cousin. According to reports, she could barely recall past memories in recent years.
