In India, Hindu married women (mostly from Northern India) perform and celebrate Karwa Chauth. This festival will be celebrated on October 13 this year. This festival celebrates the sacred bond of love and marriage. Married women perform a full-day fast in prayer for their husband’s health, wealth, and long life. On this day women keep 'Nirjala' (without water) fast from sunrise to the moonrise and ask for success, well-being, and happiness for their life partners. The day begins early with the women having sargi (food generally prepared by their mothers-in-law) before sunrise because they are not supposed to consume anything after that. Here are the main fasting rules to follow during Karwa Chauth:-

1. Married women are supposed to get up early in the morning, have a full bath and put on fresh and new clothes, and deck up on this auspicious day like a new bride with all 16 shringar. They also have to take a Sankalp which is, that they must keep the fast in order to safeguard her husband's well-being and the family's health.

2. Then women are supposed to worship Goddess Parvati as she is believed to be the Akhand Saubhagyavati, which is why women worship her.
