Monsoons sure bring us relief from the simmering heat of summer. The smell of freshly wet ground, the green wave all around, and a general gentle breeze make the rainy season one of my favourites. However, if there’s one sight that irritates me the most in monsoons, it's that of insects in my bathroom. The types of insects that infest that space in my home are mostly drain flies, cockroaches, mosquitoes, ants, and spiders, among many others. No matter how much I try, they just always have their way back. One of the reasons I found out was the usually damp walls and surroundings of my residence. And then, I started employing the following 5 tricks to get rid of insects from my bathroom during monsoons.

5 Ways To Have An Insect-Free Bathroom In Monsoons

To remove insects from your bathroom during the monsoon season, one must focus on a few key factors. Like, does the bathroom remain wet or dry mostly or say what’s the situation with the entry points. The role of natural repellents is crucial, too. Moreover, daily cleaning of the bathroom is essential. I adopted these following 5:

1) Eliminate Standing Water

We all know how mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. So removing that is a must. For this, check for standing water in the bathroom and empty that area. Leaky faucets, plant saucers, or clogged drains will inevitably welcome these insects. Since moisture is a major attractant for several bathroom insects, controlling it will definitely prevent infestations.

2) Deep Clean

A thorough cleaning of the bathroom is paramount if you want the insects to never come there. And this is beyond the weekly clean-up. This includes removing clutter, and scrubbing surfaces meticulously while paying attention to corners, grouts, and drains. In the end, dry all the surfaces completely so that there’s no drop of moisture.

3) Use Natural Repellents

Harnessing the power of natural repellents is the ultimate solution to keep your bathroom insect-free during monsoons. For this, dilute a few drops of essential oils like peppermint, eucalyptus, and tea tree in water and spray around. You can also consider placing citrus peels near possible entry points as the scent deters several insects. Spraying a mix of neem oil with water around doors, windows, and corners will work, too.

4) Seal Entry Points

Inspect for any gaps or cracks around windows, drains, or pipes. Seal them to bar the insects from entering. Make sure that all the windows and vents have intact screens not to let the insects come in.

5) Use Yellow Light

While this may not be plausible all the time, it’s highly effective. Using a yellow light can surely help reduce attracting insects in your bathroom during the monsoon season. Because of the wavelengths that are less visible to them than blue or white light, insects do not get attracted to yellow light.

Some of the tricks worked for me. So, if you implement these simple yet effective hacks, your bathroom may also remain insect-free this monsoon. So, in the end, deep cleaning, keeping the space dry, and controlling moisture are all that’s required to have a healthy bathroom and home environment.
