What Is Vivek Oberoi's Role In Ramayana? Fans Grow Curious After Seeing His Glimpse In Trailer

Ramayana is currently one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema, with the makers aiming to create a global impact. After the trailer of Ramayana dropped recently, the audience has been flooding social media with their opinions regarding the film. Many people also noticed Vivek Oberoi, who only appeared in the trailer for a second. Vivek is set to play Vidyutjihva in Ramayana.

What's Vivek Oberoi Role In Ramayana?

Vivek Oberoi will be seen as demon/ rakshasa prince Vidyutjihva, who was also Shurpanakha's husband. In Ramayana, he was killed by Ravana in a battle. It is believed that Ravana was furious after Shurpanakha married Vidyutjihva against his wishes and attacked Vidyutjihva.

Earlier, while speaking to Hindustan Times, the actor revealed that he first refused to take any fee for Ramayana but later requested producer Namit Malhotra to donate his remuneration. He said, "I told Namit that I don’t want a penny for this. I want to donate it to any sort of cause that I believe in, which is kids with cancer. I told him I want to support you because I just love what you’re doing and I think that this will take Indian cinema on the global stage with a bang."

Vidyutjihva will reportedly have a brief appearance in Ramayana, as the character of Shurpanakha is pivotal in the story.

What are the highlights in the trailer of Ramayana?

In the trailer, we see the story of Ramayana from the birth of Lord Ram, played by Ranbir Kapoor. From his youth to his marriage with Goddess Sita and exile from Ayodhya, the trailer touches many pivotal moments from the epic saga of Ramayana. It is also shown how Shurpanakha approached Lord Ram and Laxman, triggering the battle between Lord Ram and Ravana after the latter kidnapped Sita.

Despite the introduction of many important characters, Lord Hanuman remains missing.

Who plays whom in Ramayana?

Ranbir Kapoor will play Lord Rama, with Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Ravie Dubey as Laxman, and Yash as Ravana. The supporting cast includes Arun Govil as Raja Dashrath, Vivek Oberoi as Vidyutjiva, Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara, and Indira Krishnan as Kaushalya. Sunny Deol is also confirmed to play Lord Hanuman, but it is not confirmed if he will appear in the first part or not.

Ramayana will release on Diwali 2026, and its sequel will arrive on the big screens on Diwali 2027.
