Vijay Sethupathi Confirms Maharaja 2 After Hollywood Remake Announcement: 'Never Expected It To Go This Far'

The makers of Vijay Sethupathi-starrer 'Maharaja' have officially announced that the movie will get a Hollywood remake. Not much has been revealed about its Hollywood remake yet, but the actor has confirmed that Maharaja 2 is currently in the works.

While confirming Maharaja 2, Vijay Sethupathi said, "Nithilan is an excellent director. He has a great writing sense. He recently told me the story of Maharaja 2. It was so beautiful. Working with him was superb."

"He recently called me and told me that he has sold the Hollywood rights of the film. I told him, ‘I’ll act in the movie for free. Get me a role in that Hollywood remake. I’ll go to Hollywood!’ It gives me such a great surprise and happiness. I’ve always had a big interest in working in Hollywood, but more than anything, I’m extremely happy that my movie is going to Hollywood," he added.

While talking about the grand success of Maharaja, the actor added, "We never expected 'Maharaja' to go this far. The movie was good, but some people didn’t trust the film. I had that trust, but I didn’t expect this."

Who will star in Maharaja's Hollywood remake?

According to several media reports, Matthew McConaughey is in talks to star in the remake of Maharaja. Nothing has been confirmed so far. If Matthew is confirmed to lead the film, the project will get even more exciting, as he is one of the most successful and versatile stars in Hollywood and has worked in critically and commercially acclaimed projects like True Detective, Interstellar, and many more.

What was Maharaja about?

Maharaja follows a barber in Chennai who goes to the police station to retrieve his stolen dustbin, only for the police to find his intentions to be something else.

Directed by Nithilan Saminathan, the movie also stars Anurag Kashyap, Sachana Namidass, Mamta Mohandas, Natty Subramaniam, Abhirami, among others. With an IMDb rating of 8.3/10, the movie is streaming on Netflix.
