Shoojit Sircar stepped into Deepika’s apartment for a scene narration of Piku and found his character right then and there. Messy hair, crumbled t-shirt and munching something carelessly, that’s exactly how Sircar saw Padukone in her own world. Guess what? After the first scene enactment, she said “I’m in”. Because Deepika Padukone was Piku in a way. It was a match made in the cinematic universe. She isn’t your typical glam girl, but she is the OG girl next door without any frills or filters. For the first time Bollywood was witnessing a female protagonist talking openly about her dad’s bowel issues and even her own sex life. No matter what, we all see a bit of us in her or vice versa.

Ye Paani Hai Ye Aag Hai: Soft Fire Meets Subtle Ocean
Imagine the serene ocean meeting a raging volcano. That’s Piku for you! One moment you can see Piku blurting out fiery comebacks and the next, she flashes a smile that melts your heart in a tender way. Remember the iconic scene where she makes Rana understand why we need to take care of our parents and then asks him with a disarming smile, “Karoge Shaadi?”That’s her. Under the surface of a feisty girl lies a woman who’s strong and sorted. On one hand there’s childlike energy, on the other, there’s maturity beyond our senses. What a beautiful paradox! Throughout the film we can see her being irritated with her dad’s bowel troubles, yet she asks us a potent question in the end, “we can’t judge parents, right?” That’s just how she is and probably you are as well?
Ye Khudi Likhi Kitaab Hai: A Free Soul That Soars High
Piku as a character believed that independence isn’t just about splurging on shopping or clubbing every night. For her, it wasn’t about breaking the rules; it was about living in her own world peacefully. She lives life on her own terms. When she rants that a guy skips Satyajit Ray films and doesn’t vote, that means for her he’s a walking red flag. It’s her way or the highway. If moody yet goofy has a character, it’s this one! If you impulsively take a break from work, munch on a chocolate bar alone in the mall, cancel plans to chill at home,believe it or not, you are Piku of your own story!
Pyaar Ki Khuraak Si Hai Piku: A Dose Of Pure Love
On the surface, Piku might be a bubble of anger that can burst at any moment. However, deep down she’s also a cupid cloud of love. OfCourse, that side is reserved for a few special ones! The two men she deals with in the film, her father Bhaskor and Rana, leads to some serious chemistry. She might be perpetually irritated with her hypochondriac dad, but she loves him to death.
Her relationship with Rana isn’t explored fully in the film. Yet, we know there’s a deep intimacy between them. Remember the scene where she asks Rana subtly “Irritate kar rahi hun?”Or maybe the last scene where both of them finally get to play badminton? For Piku, love isn’t just a feeling, it’s a world which she keeps closer to her heart. It’s not for everyone. If this is your love language, you are Piku at the core.
