Lionsgate has unveiled the trailer for its new thriller, The Housemaid, which is scheduled to hit theatres on December 19. Directed by Paul Feig, the film is an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel and stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried.

The Housemaid (2025) Plot

The story follows Millie (Sweeney), a young woman who accepts a live-in housemaid position with the wealthy Winchester family to escape her past. Her new life with Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar) quickly turns dangerous as hidden family secrets begin to surface. The cast also includes Michele Morrone and Elizabeth Perkins in key roles.

What We Know So Far

Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for her work on The Boys and The Vampire Diaries, wrote the screenplay, with Todd Lieberman, Laura Fischer, and Paul Feig producing. 

The film aims to capture the psychological suspense of McFadden’s 2022 novel, promising a thrilling experience for viewers.

Director Paul Feig shared his confidence in the adaptation, noting the challenge of bringing a popular book to the screen. He praised Sweeney’s performance, stating she "hit just the perfect balance." 

Similarly, Erin Westerman, Lionsgate's President of Production, called both Sweeney and Seyfried "perfect" for their roles, describing them as "mysterious, nuanced and incredibly skilled."
