Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s latest romantic comedy, ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ has had a lukewarm run so far. According to Sacnilk, the film collected ₹0.07 crore on its first Monday (Day 5), taking its total India net collection to ₹30.07 crore in five days.
The movie, directed by Shashank Khaitan, opened with ₹9.25 crore on Thursday but witnessed a sharp decline on its second day with ₹5.5 crore. Despite a slight weekend recovery, ₹7.5 crore on Saturday and ₹7.75 crore on Sunday, the Monday numbers show that audience interest has waned. The film’s performance was further impacted by the strong box office dominance of Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’.

‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ is far from Varun Dhawan’s major box office hits. His highest-grossing films include ‘Dilwale’ (₹148.42 crore), ‘Judwaa 2’ (₹138.55 crore), and ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ (₹117.89 crore). Even mid-tier performers like ‘JugJugg Jeeyo’ (₹85.41 crore) and ‘Sui Dhaaga’ (₹79.07 crore) fared significantly better.
In contrast, ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’s ₹30 crore in five days is one of the weakest openings in Dhawan’s career in recent years, underperforming compared to his earlier romantic comedies under Dharma Productions.

For Janhvi Kapoor, the film currently stands at ₹30 crore, placing it fifth among her top-grossing Hindi films. Her biggest hit remains ‘Dhadak’ (₹74.19 crore), followed by ‘Devara – Part 1’ (₹62.12 crore) and ‘Param Sundari’ (₹51.31 crore). However, ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ has surpassed her previous titles like ‘Roohi’ (₹21.93 crore) and ‘Ulajh’ (₹9.07 crore).
Directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Dharma Productions and Mentor Disciple Entertainment, the film follows two ex-lovers, played by Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, who team up to make their former partners jealous. The movie also stars Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Maniesh Paul, Akshay Oberoi, and Abhinav Sharma in supporting roles.

Despite a promising premise and lighthearted humour, ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances and music but criticised its pacing and lack of depth. The film’s clash with ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ likely limited its commercial potential, making it one of the more underwhelming Dharma releases of the year.
