Spider-Man: Brand New Day Re-Release Could Feature Rosario Dawson's Cut Scene As Claire Temple

Fans who loved Tom Holland's latest outing as Peter Parker might get a reason to book tickets again. Sony is reportedly planning a theatrical re-release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and this time it will come with footage audiences have never seen. The news was first reported by Deadline and later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

Who Is Claire Temple In The Spider-Man And Marvel Universe?

The name doing the rounds is Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple. Marvel fans know her as the kind-hearted nurse from Netflix's Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders. According to reports, the extra footage includes a scene with her, though it is not limited to just that.

Dawson had hinted at this herself. At a fan event in July, the actor said she had shot a scene for Brand New Day but got cut out of the final film. She also said she loves that her character lives somewhere in the same universe and hopes to play Claire again.

Where Could The Scene Fit In?

Nothing is official yet, but some reports say the scene shows Claire taking care of Peter in the hospital after he wakes up. That would fit right after the Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, takes Peter there. Claire is connected to New York's vigilante circle, so her presence could also explain how Peter got treated without his secret identity being exposed.

Since Dawson worked with Vincent D'Onofrio (Kingpin) on Daredevil, fans are already wondering whether more Daredevil faces could show up too. That is just speculation for now.

Why Now?

The timing is no accident. Avengers: Endgame recently returned to theaters and won the weekend box office, which pushed its worldwide total to $2.885 billion. Brand New Day is doing brilliantly too. It is now the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office and stands at around $950 million in North America. A re-release with new scenes could help it become the first film to cross $1 billion domestically.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton had earlier said the team once tested a version that ran 30 minutes longer, though he still prefers the theatrical cut.g

When Will It Release?

There is no release date yet, and Sony has not shared what else the new footage holds. Brand New Day, which hit theaters on July 31, also stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo and Florence Pugh. Till the studio makes it official, Marvel fans will have to wait and keep guessing.
