Oscars 2023: RRR Makes History, Naatu Naatu Bags Nomination For Best Original Song

Naatu Naatu, the song from SS Rajmouli’s RRR, has made it to the Oscars 2023 nominations. The song has been nominated under the Best Original Song category at the upcoming Academy Awards. The announcement for the same was done on January 24.

This news comes merely weeks after MM Keeravaani, Kala Bhairava, and Rahul Sipligunj won the Golden Globe Award for the Naatu Naatu song at the 80th Golden Globe Awards on January 11. The song was in competition with Carolin' from Where the Crawdads Sing, Ciao Papa from Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick, and Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

RRR was one of the biggest box office hits of this year after collecting an estimated ₹1,150–₹1,200 crores. Set in 1920, the film revolves around two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), and their fight against the British Raj. It also explores the undocumented period in their lives when both the revolutionaries chose to go into obscurity before they began the fight for their country.

The SS Rajamouli directorial has been making it big in the international platform by receiving back-to-back awards and nominations in the west. The Boston Society Of Film Critics also awarded Keeravaani for his original score. Recently, MM Keeravaani won Best Original Score for RRR by the Los Angeles Films Critics Association. In the last few months, Rajamouli also won the Best Director award by the New York Film Critics Circle. The magnum opus also won the Saturn award in the Best International Film category and the National Board of Review named the film as one of its 10 best films of the year. RRR also won the second position in the Best Picture category at the Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Awards 2022.
