A black comedy, Hemlock Society was the third directorial of noted filmmaker Srijit Mukherji. The title was probably taken from the American right-to-die and assisted suicide advocacy body, which was operational from 1980 to 2003 and the film had the same theme but with a twist. In this, the main man, Ananda Kar, afflicted with lymphocytopenia and having barely two years to live, approaches suicidal people and makes them see that there's life beyond any disability.
Bela Seshe details the story of an elderly couple about to celebrate their 50th marriage anniversary in which the man decides to divorce his wife since he feels their bond has hit a roadblock. The family drama showcases the nuances and how to navigate the intricacies of relationships to ultimately find your long-term companion.
One of the most entertaining movies of 2012, Bhooter Bhabishyat is a ghost comedy that became one of the highest-grossing Bengali films in that year. Having supernatural elements and tongue-in-cheek humour, the Anik Dutta-directorial was loved by critics and viewers alike. Give the film a shot and you will have the best laugh of your life!
