Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie, had its global premiere at the New York Film Festival 2025 on Monday night. After the surprise screening, early reactions from the movie have started pouring in social media. And judging by the first reactions of the film, which will release in theatres on December 2025, there is a lot of hype for the critically-acclaimed film.
Set in New York in the 1950s, A24's 'Marty Supreme' is a sports dramedy, starring Timothee Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a disgraced table tennis player who has an all-consuming dream of achieving greatness in the world of the sport.
Loosely inspired by the life of table tennis legend Marty Reisman, the film charts Marty's journey from dismissed player to the pursuit of greatness. The plot delves into his personal sacrifices and ambition to prove that he can achieve global recognition.
The film is expected to feature the signature kinetic energy and psychological intensity of Safdie, focusing on the character's relentless drive and the choatic underbelly of competition.
The cast also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, Kevin O'Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara and Fran Drescher in leading roles.

While the official reviews of Marty Supreme might take time to come in, here are the early social media reactions to the film.
MARTY SUPREME is pure electricity, a relentless surge of maximalist filmmaking. Timothée Chalamet’s career-best performance anchors an ensemble that’s magic. It soars from start to finish, a synth-fueled masterpiece and one of the year’s very best.#NYFF #NYFF63 #MartySupreme

A24's Marty Supreme is the secret screening at the NYFF. Josh Safdie going solo delivers a wild rush of nonstop adrenaline much like Uncut Gems; Timothée Chalamet's no-holds-barred performance could be his Wolf of Wall Street. He'll be nominated for sure.
