Karan Johar’s Dharma Announces Biopic On India’s Spymaster R.N. Kao To Be Released In August 2028

Karan Johar’s Dharma Production is teaming up with Leo Media Collection for a theatrical feature film about Rameshwar Nath Kao, founder of India’s Research And Analysis Wing. The film is set to be released right before India’s Independence Day, 11th August 2028. 

About The Film

The film is untitled, and currently under development. The announcement was made on 21st September, the day marking 58 years since RAW’s founding. Rameshwar Nath Kao was the founder of India's external intelligence agency, RAW. The film is based on Nitin Gokhale’s book ‘Indian Spymaster’. The story spans around 1955-1971, showcasing the founding of RAW, Kao’s integral role and its first RAW mission against Pakistan in 1971.

R.N Kao And His Role In RAW

Rameshwar Nath Kao (R.N. Kao) was the founding father and the first chief of India’s external intelligence agency, Research And Analysis Wing. He served the organisation from its founding i.e. 21st September 1968 day till 1977. Kao was appointed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and he worked to identify the gaps during 1962 Indo-China War and 1971 India-Pakistan War. 

Kao was famous for his ‘Kao Boys’, an elite group of 250 officers from IB to form RAW’s foundational core. 

Team And Production Details

For now, the director and the cast for the movie has not been established. But the makers are expected to work on an A-list for this biopic. For now, everything is under the wraps for the film.
