5 Upcoming Indian Mythological Films
As we move through 2026, a new wave of cinema is set to bridge the gap between devotion and high-octane entertainment. Here are five upcoming mythological spectacles you cannot afford to miss.
Jai Hanuman

Following the sleeper hit Hanu-Man, director Prasanth Varma is expanding his ‘PVCU’ (Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe) with ‘Jai Hanuman’. While the first film gave us a modern-day superhero, the sequel focuses on the protector himself.
Rishab Shetty, known for his powerhouse performance in Kantara, has stepped into the role of Lord Hanuman. The project officially launched with a grand puja ceremony in Hampi, and principal photography is scheduled to begin in April 2026.
Vvan

Merging folklore with a modern thriller, Balaji Motion Pictures' ‘Vvan’ stars Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia. Directed by the minds behind ‘Panchayat’, the story follows a modern man who accidentally triggers a divine and ancient force by defying local traditions.
Set against the backdrop of a remote village, he must confront a violent goddess to save the inhabitants from total destruction.
Varanasi

SS Rajamouli, the visionary behind ‘Baahubali’ and ‘RRR’, is currently filming his next magnum opus, ‘Varanasi’. Unlike his recent multi-part epics, Rajamouli has confirmed this will be a standalone, three-hour cinematic experience.
The film stars Mahesh Babu as Rudra, a devotee of Lord Shiva who embarks on a globe-trotting quest to find a divine ancient artefact. Joining him are Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist, Kumbha.
Ramayana

Perhaps the most discussed project in Indian cinema today, Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ is being crafted as a global event. The film explores the journey of Lord Rama and Sita as they navigate exile, duty, and the ultimate battle against the formidable Ravana.
Ranbir Kapoor takes on the role of Rama, Sai Pallavi stars as Sita, and Yash portrays the multifaceted Ravana. With Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, the first part of this trilogy is slated for a massive Diwali 2026 release.

Mahavatar

Vicky Kaushal is set to portray the eternal warrior in Amar Kaushik’s ‘Mahavatar’. The film tells the story of Chiranjivi Parshuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is traditionally viewed as the fierce protector of Dharma.
Produced by Maddock Films, this project aims to shed light on one of mythology’s most complex and less-explored figures.
