Varun Dhawan's latest action drama Baby John has made a modest debut at the box office, earning ₹13.17 crore in its first two days. Despite the advantage of a Christmas holiday release, the film faces significant competition from established blockbusters currently dominating theatres, including Allu Arjun's 'Pushpa 2' and Disney's 'Mufasa: The Lion King'.

However, despite mixed critical reception, ‘Baby John’ recorded Varun Dhawan's best-ever opening in the past five years, as per reports, surpassing the earnings of his previous releases. His earlier films, ‘Bhediya’ (₹7.48 crore) and ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’ (₹9.28 crore), had relatively lower opening-day collections compared to ‘Baby John’.

Baby John Plot

The film adapts Atlee's 2016 Tamil blockbuster ‘Theri’ (starring Vijay). In ‘Baby John,’ the story follows DCP Satya Verma (Varun Dhawan), who adopts the alias ‘Baby John’ following a tragic confrontation with politician Babbar Sher. After losing his wife and mother in the conflict, Verma relocates to Kerala as a baker to protect his daughter Khushi.

The narrative intensifies when threats to Khushi's safety force Verma to confront his past. A crucial plot element involves Khushi's teacher, Tara (Wamiqa Gabbi), who is revealed to be undercover officer Adhira Verma. Together, they work to dismantle Babbar's criminal empire to ensure Khushi's safety.

The coming days will be crucial in determining whether word-of-mouth publicity and the holiday season can help ‘Baby John’s overcome its initial challenges and establish a stronger presence at the box office.
