Emraan Hashmi is back with the sequel to one of his finest works. On his birthday, the actor announced the release date of Awarapan 2, which is April 3, 2026. The premiere is timed around Good Friday and Easter weekend. Awarapan 2 will hit the cinema halls almost two decades after the original was released on June 29, 2007. No other cast member was revealed but the teaser video stated that Hashmi will be reprising his role of Shivam Pandit.
The announcement video of Awarapan 2, lasting almost a minute, starts with Hashmi's voice in the backdrop and stills from Awarapan. He says, "Awarapan...dhunda sukh, mila dard, akelapan...ek lambi talaash (Vagrancy...was searching for happiness, received pain, loneliness, and a long search), and we go on a nostalgia trip as we see joyous scenes of Shivam and Aaliyah (Shriya Saran). The line, however, ends with her death and Shivam's angry-sad outburst.
A slow version of Awarapan's monstrous hit song Tera Mera Rishta plays in the background as more sequences of Awarapan are shown in the clip. The frames are pretty deftly chosen as they give a good rundown of what happened in Awarapan. This serves as a good recap to those who have watched the 2007 film and also those who haven't.

In the clip, Shivam recalls how Aaliyah believed that freeing the helpless from pain gives freedom to the whole of humanity. "Kisi aur ki zindagi k liye marna hi meri manzil hai (My life's mission is to die to make someone live)," he declares, concluding the announcement video.
Must admit, the video and content make us hopeful of a well-rounded and intense film starring Hashmi. The actor, last seen in a cameo in Ae Watan Mere Watan, is one of the most underrated actors in the film industry. So, watching him return as Shivam, one of his craftiest roles, does amp up our anticipation.
Before Awarapan 2, Hashmi will be seen in at least three films: Ground Zero, and Telugu films They Call Him OG and G2.
Awarapan 2 is scheduled to hit cinema halls on April 3, 2026.
