Papad Cone Chaat recipe

Ingredients

For the papad cones

  • 6 medium urad dal papads
  • 1 teaspoon oil or ghee (optional for brushing)

For the filling

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, deseeded and finely chopped
  • 1 small cucumber, finely chopped
  • 1 small boiled potato, diced
  • 2 tablespoons boiled sweet corn
  • 2 tablespoons roasted peanuts
  • 2 tablespoons pomegranate seeds
  • 2 green chillies, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander, chopped

Chutneys

  • 2 tablespoons mint-coriander chutney
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind-date chutney

Seasoning

  • ½ teaspoon chaat masala
  • ¼ teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • ¼ teaspoon red chilli powder
  • Black salt to taste
  • Salt as required
  • Lemon juice

For garnish

  • Fine nylon sev
  • Fresh coriander
  • Extra pomegranate seeds

How to make Papad Cone Chaat

  1. Roast each papad over medium flame.
  2. While the papad is still warm, gently roll it into a cone shape and hold it until it sets perfectly.
  3. In a bowl, now add tomato, onion, cucumber, potato, peanuts, coriander, green chillies, and sweet corn.
  4. Mix mint chutney, tamarind chutney, chaat masala, cumin powder, chilli powder, black salt, regular salt, and squeeze lemon.
  5. Just before you serve, put a spoonful of it in each cone.
  6. Top with sev, coriander, and pomegranate seeds.
  7. Arrange cups in shot glasses and serve in restaurant-style.

You can try a variety of flavours in the chaat by adding paneer, rajma, corn, cheese, or even sprouts for a healthier version.
