According to the website Sacnilk, Batwara 1947 collected Rs 5.75 crore in India. The numbers are expected to be higher over the first weekend as it is also coinciding with Independence Day 2026.
Even though Batwara 1947 had a decent opening, it has been affected by the craze around Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2. For the unversed, Awarapan 2 released on the same day and earned Rs 21.50 crore in India.

The movie stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, and Abhimanyu Singh in the lead roles, with Khushi Hajare, Kanikka Kapur, and Isha Sandhir seen in pivotal roles.
Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta play a couple who are forced to migrate to Lahore due to the aftermath of Partition.
While speaking to Gulf News, Sunny Deol shared what the audience should expect from Batwara 1947. He said, "It's a family film. It's more about humanity. It's nothing to do with being patriotic or not. It's about the family and humanity and how we go through it."

What is the plot of Batwara 1947?
The plot is based on Asghar Wajahat's drama Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, which was premiered in 1989 and gained popularity across the world.
The story is set at the time of the Partition of India and Pakistan and follows a Muslim family that had to move to Lahore from Lucknow. They are allotted a beautiful haveli in the city, which earlier belonged to a Hindu family. They are shocked to see an elderly Hindu woman already living in the house and refusing to leave.
The audience will have to wait to find out if Batwara 1947 can create its own path among other patriotic Bollywood movies or will remain affected by the craze around Awarapan 2.
